Hillary Clinton was born on October 26, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois as Hilary Diane Rodham. She has brothers that are younger, Hugh and Tony. She grew up in Illinois and was a devout Methodist. She attended Wellesley College in 1965 and majored in political science. She served as President of Young Republicans during her years at Wellesley. Hillary organized strikes when she felt that African American people were not being recruited as faculty or students at her college. Her political road started very early in her life and she was very passionate about equal rights and fair treatment of everyone.
Hillary Rodham attended Yale University and obtained a law degree in 1973 and Yale is where she met her current husband Bill Clinton. Hillary and Bill wed on October 11, 1975 in their living room in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In 1976, Bill Clinton was appointed Arkansas Attorney General. During this time the Clinton’s moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. Hillary worked for the infamous Rose Law Firm and did many pro bono cases working with children. Chelsea Clinton was born on February 27, 1980, and was the only child for Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Hillary’s husband, Bill was elected as Arkansas Governor in 1978 and this made her the First Lady of Arkansas. She wore this title for 12 years. During her time as First Lady, she made healthcare more accessible for Arkansas poorest communities.
Bill Clinton became President of the United States in 1992 and he was in office for two terms. Hillary was a very important and powerful First Lady and was often compared to Eleanor Roosevelt. Her hairstyles were also closely monitored and she often changed them which seemed to please the media.
Hillary was always an advocate for healthcare, especially for underprivileged. She was a leading force in helping women get mammograms early as a form of breast cancer prevention. She also has always advocated for the rights of children.
The Clinton’s moved to New York after Bills Presidency and Hillary became a US Senator. She was reelected in 2006 and won by a very wide margin. She was beloved in New York and made a major impact while she served in office.
She ran for President in 2008 against Barack Obama, and she narrowly missed. She was beat by Obama, but strongly supported his efforts from there on out. President Obama nominated her for Secretary of State and this is a position she holds to this day.
